At the end of our previous session, we had to leave the bank behind the newly-exposed brickwork with a slight overhang. This has now been tidied back which should prevent the weather washing the ground back over the excavation at this point. Although this was not a big step forward for the investigation, it has better exposed a section through the ground behind the pumphouse and a demolition layer is now much more clearly seen. This line of broken tile and brick shows up in the photo here as a line of red debris from the top of the brick pillar sloping down to the right. This line probably represents the ground level at the time of demolition and illustrates how much of the hillside has accumulated over this spot since that time.
