Our plan for the day was to uncover the wall foundations on the north-eastern side of the pumphouse and, time permitting, to start a two metres-wide trench to reveal the floor of the building parallel to the newly-exposed wall. This was a little ambitious, however, a great deal was accomplished and we finished the day with the entire north-eastern wall uncovered. This was the first all-day event with a good number of WCMS members attending. As on the previous two days of digging, we were only working through post-abandonment layers and our finds were limited to the litter of several generations of passers-by. The majority of the finds were broken glass bottles. Quite a few fragments are from long-past local companies like Bonny\u2019s and the brewers Mellersh and Neale.<\/p>\n\n\n

The team ranged from the young through to several retired members but with equal enthusiasm from everybody. For those who were new to the site this was a great opportunity to learn about the well and our plans to expose what remains. The weather was fair and we had a few visitors interested in what we are doing.<\/p>\n\n\n
